Posts

Over the course of this passed week I managed to work out twice, and while doing so I was on the treadmill for 1 hour. I usually start at about 7:30 pm, after I have finished homework and dinner. this week I listened to several movie review Podcast, one of which inspired me to see Aqua Man in theaters (which I regret, save your money.)  I can not say if I actually go any faster when listening to podcast and thus burn more calories, but I have decided that I will be continuing to do this after the project ends. I find it fun to look forward to something that does not included watching a screen, plus I will get more exercise which is always a plus.           In the article H ere How America Uses its Land(1). I learned that 1/3 of the USA is used for farmland. most of that farmland is used to grow corn, which is used for diesel. I also learned that most of the produce we eat comes from other countries.         The article(2) on forming new habits taught me that it always takes l

Calculating how much Power I am saving

This week I started my plan to save power while exercising, and let me tell you, it went better than expected. To recap, my plan is to listen to my phone with headphones while I am on the treadmill instead of watching TV. Unfortunate due to homework, I have only had time to got on the treadmill twice since last Thursday, once on Saturday and Wednesday. On both of those days I exercised for 1 hour plus, something I have never done before. I contribute this to the fact that I was listening to NPR stories on my phone rather than watching some marvel movie. With movies, its beyond easy for me to sit on the couch and watch, but with radio stories I find it hard to sit and listen, it has to be more in the background of something that I am doing, so if I wanted to finish the story I would have to keep running (Citation 3). I did not plan on running any longer, so this is a very pleasant surprise outcome. I listened to stories about TV reviews and some albums I had been meaning to l
We many not all be cutting down trees or personally dumping oil into the gulf, but we all contributed to destroying the planet in are own special ways(5). I have come to realize that I use to much electricity, and to help this blue marble I live on,  I will try to cut my consumption down by not watching 40 minutes of TV everyday while I workout. During the 4 days a week that I work out in my basement I instead listen to a podcast or book on tape on my phone. I plan to start on Saturday the 8th.        although  TV may not be the biggest power sucker in you home, ( that award goes to Air conditioning and heating(1)) but it is indefinitely one of the most unnecessary. Out of all the devices in your home made purely for entertainment, the TV ranks the highest Compared to phones or radio(2). This is because of the large screens they have. So why is it so important to safe energy? In order to create electricity you have to have burn coal, which leases the earth pent-up carbon dioxi
